Newcastle United, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace are in the hunt to sign Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Huddersfield are willing to cash in on O'Brien this month for the right price.

That has prompted a race for the signature of the Terriers academy product.

He is regarded as one of the Championship club's prize assets but is out of contract in the summer of 2022.

Premier League clubs have been keeping tabs on O'Brien for some time.

The youngster is predominantly a central midfielder but can also operate higher up the pitch in more advanced positions.

O'Brien has made rapid progress since graduating from the youth ranks at Huddersfield, where he twice won the club's academy player of the season before making his senior bow.

He had successful season on loan at Bradford City in League One and has impressed since the Terriers dropped down to the Championship.

The midfielder has made 57 appearances in all competitions for Huddersfield.

They have yielded three goals and six assists, and he was also a regular scorer and creator at Bradford.

Huddersfield announced the signing of winger Sorba Thomas on Wednesday but Football Insider has been told he is set to be loaned to Harrogate Town.
