Newcastle United have made a deadline-busting move to sign Tottenham star Lucas Moura, sources have told Football Insider.

The north-east giants have swooped for the forward, 30, after he was dropped from the Spurs team.

Newcastle have enquired about taking Moura on loan for the rest of the season.

It comes as Spurs are linked with signing Dan James from Leeds United as Antonio Conte looks to bring in a new wide forward.

Moura has extensive Premier League experience and has scored 38 times for Spurs as well as supplied 27 assists in 204 appearances in all competitions.

He is under contract until the summer of 2024 having signed an extension just last month (9 August).

The Magpies want to make Moura their fourth headline capture of the summer.

They smashed their transfer record with the £63m signing of Swedish hitman Aleander Isak from Real Sociedad last Friday (26 August).

Highly-rated centre-back Sven Botman has also joined from Lille, while Matt Targett and Nick Pope signed from Aston Villa and Burnley respectively.

Moura could become the third Brazilian on the Magpies' book alongside Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes.

Eddie Howe's side have enjoyed a promising start to the season and were undefeated until Wednesday's (31 August) late defeat to Liverpool.

Moura, who has 35 caps for Brazil, began his career at Sao Paulo before a move Paris Saint-Germain in 2013.

He joined Spurs in 2018 and wrote his name into the club's folklore with a famous hat-trick against Ajax to take them to the Champions League final in 2019.
