Noel Whelan has sent a message on Twitter to Leeds cult hero Pontus Jansson to thank him for joining the club this summer.

Centre-back Jansson has made a huge impact at Elland Road since joining in the summer on a season-long loan from Torino.

He has quickly become a fan favourite and terrace hero as a result of both his defensive dominance and obvious passion for the team.

Jansson delivered another barnstorming display on Saturday as Leeds defeated Wolves 1-0 at Molineux through a second-half goal from Kemar Roofe.

Ex-Leeds striker Whelan subsequently posted a message on his personal Twitter account to the Sweden international.

"This man is what Leeds is all about," Whelan said to Jansson. "Thank you for being at our club."

Jansson, 25, has now started nine Championship games, and 10 in all competitions, for Leeds as he develops a growing reputation as one of the outstanding centre-backs in the second tier.
