Norwich City are in advanced talks to appoint Johannes Hoff Thorup as their new manager, sources have told Football Insider

The 35-year-old has spent the past 18 months in charge of Danish Superliga side FC Nordsjaelland.

The Danish boss was lined up to replace David Wagner as the Canaries manager before the German was sacked on 17 May following the club's play-off semi-final mauling.

Sources have told Football Insider the deal is now “very advanced” and a breakthrough in negotiations is close.

Norwich in talks with Johannes Hoff Thorup to replace David Wagner

Wagner was relieved of his duties after Norwich were convincingly beaten 4-0 by Leeds United in the Championship semi last Thursday.

There had been much speculation around the 52-year-old’s position in the final few months of the campaign before a strong end to the season earned the Canaries a top-six finish.

That wasn’t enough to persuade Carrow Road chiefs into handing him another year in the dugout as they decided to bring his 18-month spell with the club to an end.

They are now making strong progress as talks advance with the Danish manager.

Thorup has spent the past nine years with the Superliga club, where he was previously a youth coach and assistant manager before landing the top job in January 2023.

He led them to second in the table last season and they now sit in fourth spot heading into the final game of the current campaign.
