Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town are racing to sign Kelechi Iheanacho after he left Leicester City, sources have told Football Insider.

Both Premier League outfits have registered their interest in signing the 27-year-old on a free transfer after his contract at the King Power expired last month.

Iheanacho already has offers on the table from clubs in Greece and Turkey, but both Forest and Ipswich are hopeful of convincing him to stay in England.

The clubs are now set to make formal contract proposals to the striker in the hope of winning the race for his signature.

Iheanacho spent seven years at Leicester after joining from Manchester City in 2017, making 232 appearances and scoring 61 goals for the club.

His time in the Premier League overall saw him find the net 30 times across six seasons with the Foxes.

He then struggled for regular game time in the Championship last season, starting just 12 games as he averaged 42 minutes per game and scored six goals.

Despite the drop in form, Forest and Ipswich remain keen to give him another shot at Premier League football.

Ipswich have now emerged as late contenders for his signature as they look to strengthen their attacking options upon their promotion to the Premier League.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa had also been among the interested parties, but their interest has cooled in recent weeks as Jhon Duran has yet to seal a move away.
