Nottingham Forest supporters have expressed a great deal of confusion on social media after new signing Marko Stamenic was sent out on loan to Olympiacos.

The UEFA Conference League winners are, alongside Forest, owned by Greek businessman Evangelos Marinakis, with the two having exchanged players in the past - much in the same way as Watford and Udinese have notably done down the years.

New Zealander Stamenic was unveiled by Forest on 21 June - signing a five-year deal - with his loan transfer to Olympiacos confirmed the same day.

The 22-year-old midfielder spent last season with Red Star Belgrade, scoring twice in 35 appearances.

Stamenic was set to arrive in England but with Coventry City in the Championship in a £4m deal, as reported by Football Insider on 18 June, before Marinakis swooped in and hijacked the move.

Nottingham Forest fans baffled by Stamenic saga

Amid the news that Nottingham Forest had signed and immediately lent out Stamenic to their "sister club" in Athens, supporters at the City Ground displayed their disbelief and even apathetic sarcasm at how the move could benefit Nuno's side, or the club's accounts for PSR.
