Sources: Nottingham Forest open talks to sign Che Adams after Leeds United approach
Nottingham Forest have opened talks with Southampton to sign Che Adams, sources have told Football Insider.
The Premier League new boys have followed up their approach for the striker, 26, by starting negotiations over a potential deal.
Forest are attempting to beat rivals Leeds United to a deal for Adams.
The Yorkshire giants have also registered their interest in landing the forward in this summer's window.
Leeds have set their sights on Adams again after having a near-£20million bid rejected in January 2020.
Adams has two years remaining on the contract he signed following his move to St Mary's from Birmingham City in July 2019.
He has netted 21 times in 110 appearances for the Saints, including seven times in 30 Premier League appearances in 2021-22.
Southampton have added to their attacking garrison this summer with the £11m signing of 19-year-old French forward Sekou Mara from Bordeaux.
Adams meanwhile, who has amassed six goals from 19 caps for Scotland, could potentially become Forest's 13th addition of the current window.
Brennan Johnson was their top scorer in their promotion-winning campaign but Steeve Cooper has moved to add more firepower to his squad ahead of 2022-23.
Centre-forward Taiwo Awoniyi, 24, has been the headline arrival so far after his £18.5m move from Union Berlin.
Leeds meanwhile are looking for support for their chief goalscorer Patrick Bamford, who they hope can stay fit in the coming season after an injury-riddled 2021-22.
