Leeds left-back Tom Pearce will sign a new contract with Leeds this summer, according to a reliable journalist.

Alan Nixon the Sun's transfer expert, made the claim on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday.

However, it wasn't all good news for the Championship club as he added that this won't put off the Premier League interest that he was attracting.

Football Insider verdict:

Irrespective of the Premier League interest, this is good news for Leeds. It means that even if clubs pursue him and he wants to leave, that Leeds will command a decent fee for him. It's a problem that was entirely of Leeds' own making. They thought he was good enough for the first team and put him in the shop window without getting him tied down to a new deal first. However, it looks like they're going to get away with it and Pearce is going to repay Leeds for giving him a chance by signing the deal. Everton are one of the teams that are said to be interested in his signature and they know Pearce well, having released him from their youth academy. Alan Nixon also reported that their left-back Leighton Baines would be moving to the MLS this summer and that might well make them more determined to land Pearce. However, either Leeds get to keep Pearce (the preferred option) or they get some money to spend on a replacement. Either way, this contract is crucial - without it Pearce would be able to leave for compensation.
