Paris Saint-Germain failed in a last-gasp move to sign West Ham playmaker Manuel Lanzini on deadline day, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The European giants made an enquiry to the Premier League club about taking the Argentine on loan after Tottenham refused to let Dele Alli leave.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that West Ham knocked back PSG's approach even though Lanzini, 27, is not a regular member of their starting XI.

David Moyes believes the attacking midfielder could still have a big role to play for the Irons in the second half of the season.

Lanzini has slipped further down the pecking order following the deadline day loan signing of Jesse Lingard from Man United.

West Ham also converted Said Benrahma's season-long loan into a permanent deal at the end of the January window.

Both players started the Hammers' matches last week against Fulham and Wolves, which were drawn and won respectively.

In a signal of the new pecking order at the Hammers, Lingard and Benrahma formed two-thirds of the attacking trident behind spearhead Michail Antonio.

By contrast, Lanzini has made just two Premier League starts among 15 appearances in all competitions this season.

He has scored one goal and provided three assists in those games, but his contribution is a far cry from a few years ago when he was one of the Hammers' star players.

Lanzini has made 149 appearances for West Ham since signing in 2016, scoring 22 goals and supplying 23 assists.
