Pundit Exclusive: Defender may have weeks to save Spurs career after 'Brilliant' start

Alan Hutton has suggested Davinson Sanchez may have just a couple of weeks to save his Tottenham career after Toby Alderweireld's injury blow.

The former Spurs and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admitted it looks like the 24-year-old has fallen out of Jose Mourinho's plans despite a "brilliant" start to life in north London.

The Colombia international has not featured in Tottenham's last four Premier League squads, while he has made nine starts from a possible 16 games.

He has been leapfrogged in the pecking order by summer signing Joe Rodon, although the Wales international is ineligible for the Lilywhites' Europa League fixtures.

Hutton has suggested Sanchez's rashness has caused Mourinho to lose faith in the centre-back but that Alderweireld's injury, which is set to keep him out for two to four weeks, could give him a chance to redeem himself.

Asked if he thought Sanchez's future at Spurs was hanging in the balance, Hutton told Football Insider: "You know, when he first came I thought he was a brilliant player, he had pace, strength.

"Sometimes, I don't know, it seems like he could do more, I think he could be a little bit more calm, I think sometimes he just kind of lashes at the ball and things like that.

"It looks like Mourinho wants people who are calm on the ball, are going to come out and pass it so yes, possibly, he has just weeks to save his career.

"They've brought in another option and he's been left out of squads so you lean to the side where he's maybe not quite in his plans.

"It's up to him to come and show his worth, show his quality so he's got an opportunity with Alderweireld looking like he's going to be out for a number of weeks."
