Paul Robinson has insisted "it would be a disaster" for Man United if Ed Woodward delayed his departure from the club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper claimed the 50-year-old "is a lot to blame" for the Red Devils' lack of success in recent seasons.

Woodward is currently in the process of appointing a new manager following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.

In April, following the European Super League debacle, the United chief executive announced he would step down at the end of the calendar year.

However, according to Sky Sports (22nd November), Woodward could delay his departure to oversee the appointment of an interim and then long-term replacement for Solskjaer.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Robinson said: "I cannot see how he could stay, to be honest with you.

"Given the current situation and what has happened under his tenure, he is a lot to blame. The results are as much his fault because he is the one that has appointed the managers.

"They have an exit plan in place. He should leave at the end of the year as originally planned. It would be a disaster for that football club if he stayed."

Woodward was appointed executive vice-chairman of Manchester United in 2012.

His tenure has been characterised by fan disgruntlement and the failure to deliver a Premier League title.
