Pundit issues 'huge' Daniel Levy claim after Tottenham development

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has claimed Antonio Conte needs to shoulder some of the responsibility for the poor run of form at Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker also blamed the Spurs board for making "huge" decisions behind closed doors but not taking the blame.

As quoted by football.london's Tottenham news (18 January), Conte complained the the club's sporting director has never explained the strategy or the vision of the club.

The Italian complained about the club officials and staff's relationships with the media.

He also noted the difference between England and Italy, where members of the club hierarchy speak to the media ahead of a match.

When asked if Conte was right to call out the club officials so publicly, McAvennie told Football Insider: "He is going to get the blame anyway.

"I think too many chairmen sit behind closed doors and make huge decisions but they do not take the blame for it. But if it works they come out and take the credit.

"He has just called them out. I put the blame at his feet as well if he is buying the players. Some of them are just not good enough. I can't understand why they have not got a top centre-half. It beggars belief."

Spurs have won just one of their previous five Premier League games.

They were beaten 2-0 by London rivals Arsenal last weekend (15 January) and are struggling to close the gap to the league leaders.
