Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin for his "brilliant attitude and application."

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and England goalkeeper suggested the 25-year-old is irreplaceable for Eddie Howe's side.

Saint-Maximin missed the Magpies 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday because of injury.

Newcastle

In an interview with Alan Shearer for The Athletic (8 September), Howe revealed he has tried to "understand how Saint-Maximin thinks" in order to get the best out of him.

The winger was linked with an exit from St. James' Park in the summer.

He has just under four years remaining on his contract on Tyneside.

When asked by Football Insider if Howe is getting the best out of Saint-Maximin, Robinson said: "You always get a level of performance and commitment from Saint-Maximin.

"That is why the Newcastle fans like him so much. His attitude and application is brilliant.

"His ability comes alongside that. There is little bits of genius in his play.

"To replace him would be very difficult. He is such a rare, individual talent. There are not many players like him.

"I think he will benefit from the investment. He is the type of player who will do better surrounded by better players. As Newcastle grow, he will grow with them."

Saint-Maximin has made four Premier League appearances this season.

He has contributed one goal and two assists in those outings.
