Pundit suggests the real reason for Patrick Bamford meltdown as Leeds transfer claim made

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Patrick Bamford will find his best form for Leeds United if he continues to be given game time.

That's according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 29-year-old's form.

Bamford is yet to score in nine Premier League outings this season.

The striker's game time has been limited as he has only made four starts this term due to fitness issues.

He missed a one-on-one with Bernd Leno as Leeds fells to a 3-2 defeat against Fulham at Elland Road on Sunday (23 October).

McAvennie has no doubts that Bamford will find his best form if he is given the chance to prove himself by Jesse Marsch.

"He will never have a better opportunity to play and get that fitness back, who is going to come in for him?" McAvennie told Football Insider's Charlotte Cohen.

"The problem is, when he scored goals and got big figures, but he isn't doing that now.

"If he comes back to scoring and back to fitness, getting the goals back, you couldn't spend enough money to find someone who could do that.

"He has proven that he can do it. He has been injured for so long. The more game time he gets, the better he will become.

"There is no doubt that his confidence is obviously low at the moment."

During his first Premier League season with Leeds, Bamford scored 17 goals in 38 total appearances.

He only managed two goals in nine appearances during the 2021-22 campaign.
