Pundit verdict on Leeds United appointing Steven Gerrard amid 'huge' claim
Alan Hutton has claimed Steven Gerrard is not the man to save Leeds United.
Speaking exclusively to Footbal Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender was shocked Leeds chose to sack Jesse Marsch after backing him in the January transfer window.
On Monday (6 February), the Whites confirmed Marsch has been sacked by the club and the process of finding a new manager is underway.
According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb (6 February), former Villa boss Gerrard is one of the candidates being considered as his replacement.
This site revealed yesterday that West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is the number one choice to replace Marsch.
Hutton suggested Gerrard may not have the right experience to save Leeds from relegation.
"I think it is a difficult job to take over in the situation that they are in, just above the relegation zone on goal difference. he told Football Insider.
"I think he did really well at Rangers, it did not quite work out at Villa, I think they will be looking for somebody with experience to get them out of there.
"Last time they went down they got lost in the lower leagues for a long period of time.
"The Jesse Marsch situation has not worked out. The biggest shock of the whole situation is that they backed him in the transfer window and then after a game he is now sacked which I find really strange.
"It is going to be a huge appointment whoever comes in next. They are in a very difficult spot and I do not know if Gerrard has got enough to get them out of that."
