Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is 'done' at Liverpool after source's update today - pundit
Paul Robinson is “surprised” Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain started against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the development will have no bearing on the 29-year-old’s future.
Oxlade-Chamberlain started on the left-hand side in Liverpool’s 3-1 win at Villa Park.
Speaking to club media post-match (27 December), the Englishman said the position was “new and slightly different” to what he is used to.
His contract at Anfield ends next June and Football Insider understands the latest on his Liverpool future is he will leave on a free when his deal expires.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future, Robinson said: “I was surprised to see him start.
“I do not think that will have any bearing on his future though. For me, his time at Liverpool is done. He will leave at the end of the season once his contract runs out.
"I think he played out of necessity at the weekend. Liverpool have [Cody] Gakpo coming into that squad so I cannot see Oxlade-Chamberlain having too many opportunities to start.
"At this stage of his career, Oxlade-Chamberlain needs to move on and play every week. He has been a bit-part player for too long now. The injuries have been a big part of that.
"I’m sure he is ready to join a club where he will get regular game time. He is good enough to play regularly at another Premier League club.”
