Paul Robinson has claimed there is "no role for Ralf Rangnick" at Man United after this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one "cannot see a working relationship" between the 52-year-old and Erik ten Hag.

As confirmed by Man United (29 April), Rangnick has been appointed the new manager of Austria on a two-year contract.

The statement revealed United's current interim boss will combine his new job with his consultancy role at Old Trafford.

Rangnick has struggled since replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the dugout and has failed to turn their fortunes around.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the club's statement, Robinson said: "The soap opera continues at Manchester United.

"An advisor who is also the manager of a national team?

"The whole club needs a shake-up from top to bottom. The sooner the decks are cleared the better.

"They need to give Ten Hag the control he needs. Look at Man City, Liverpool and Tottenham, their managers are figureheads for the club. They do not have an international manager working at the club as a consultant.

"United need to clear the decks and start a fresh. I don't see any role for Ralf Rangnick moving forward. In all honesty, I can't see a working relationship between Ten Hag and him.

"I don't see any place for Rangnick at United after this season. I question why he is needed."
