Rangers 22-year-old makes PL switch (not Hyndman) - report

Jon Toral has had his Rangers loan spell cut short and has been sent back to parent club Arsenal, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claims that the 22-year-old has moved back to the Premier League club after suffering a season-ending injury.

Toral has missed the last two matches and was on the bench during the Scottish Cup semi-final loss to Celtic, meaning his final game in a Gers shirt was the 2-0 win over Partick in mid-April in which he scored.

The former Birmingham and Brentford loanee was signed by Mark Warburton in January alongside Bournemouth playmaker Emerson Hyndman, who has also played his final game for Rangers having picked up a foot injury.

Rangers will now have to make do without the two midfielders going into their last three clashes against Hearts, Aberdeen and St. Johnstone.

Pedro Caixinha’s men have already secured a Europa League spot for next season and have an unrealistic chance of snatching second place from the Dons.

Toral has made 12 appearances for Rangers, scoring twice and supplying three assists.

He’s only played in four games under Caixinha’s reign and never played in more than three league games in a row due to injury and performance issues.

Football Insider Verdict

Toral’s spell at Ibrox has been an indifferent one and has had nowhere near the effect on the squad as Hyndman did during his loan stay. Supporters will perhaps be glad to see the back of the Spaniard who offered very little other than his two goals. The defensive midfielder has been a hindrance at times and Caixinha should not be concerned about bringing him back for next season. It’s going to be a huge summer for the Light Blues and they need to take a couple of years to focus on players who are already at the pinnacle of their careers.
