Rangers 'absolutely delighted' amid major update on Morelos future - pundit

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has claimed no club will offer Rangers "anything close" to their valuation for Alfredo Morelos this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic and St Mirren forward said the 24-year-old would not be of interest to Europe's "big, big clubs" and suggested other sides could not afford the Colombian.

The Colombian striker, who has been long-linked with an exit from Ibrox, has just over two years remaining on his contract.

However, McAvennie claimed the current financial climate will make it difficult for potential suitors to fund a move for Morelos.

"I do not think he would go to one of the big, big clubs in Europe so I think he would want to stay," he told Football Insider.

"He will only be worth what someone is willing to offer and at the moment nobody has offered anything close and I don't think they will either.

"Rangers will be absolutely delighted with that because they will only sell him if a club meets their asking price and I think it will be a bit much for most sides, especially in today's financial climate.

"It is a strange one but if he was to leave he would go with the fans blessing because he has done ever so well for them. I don't think he would go though."
