Rangers have been hit by a transfer blow as Bolton Wanderers defender Mark Beevers has agreed to join Peterborough, Football Insider understands.

Steven Gerrard's side have been among the clubs trailing the 29-year-old, who is out of contract at financially stricken Bolton next month and is set to quit after they went into administration.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that ex-Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall centre-back Beevers has snubbed interest from Rangers and multiple English clubs to settle terms with Posh.

An announcement could be made as early as this week by the League One outfit as they work quickly to finalise a deal that manager Darren Ferguson believes can propel the club to promotion next season.

Beevers joined Bolton from Millwall in 2016 and has extensive experience in the Championship and League One, accumulating 453 appearances across his career.

Rangers are in the market for two new centre-backs this summer as they look to replace Joe Worrall, who has returned to Nottingham Forest after completing a season-long loan, and Gareth McAuley.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Light Blues have tabled a significant offer for Oldham Athletic centre-back George Edmundson, who has also attracted a bid from Peterborough.

It remains to be seen whether Posh's success in agreeing terms with Beevers means they will pull out of the race for 21-year-old Edmundson.
