Re-signing Leon Balogun was a "no brainer" for Rangers after Leon King's injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton didn't understand why Balogun was allowed to leave last summer but is delighted to see him return to Ibrox.

The Light Blues confirmed that the 35-year-old put pen to paper on a one-year contract after fourth choice centre-back King picked up an injury that looks set to rule him out for a significant period of time.

Balogun left Rangers last summer following the expiration of his contract and joined up with Michael Beale at QPR for the 2022-23 season.

The centre-back made 65 appearances during his first stint at Ibrox between 2020-2022 and netted two goals in those outings.

Hutton wasn't surprised to see the defender returning to Glasgow.

"I think it is a no brainer," he told Football Insider.

"I did not really understand the situation when he first left. He had proven his worth to Rangers, he was very reliable even if he was not playing every single week and he had a good partnership with Conor Goldson.

"I did not really understand why they let him go. We have seen how the manager rates him, he knows him really well. It is an easy one for him to come in and pick up where he left off.

"I do not see any sort of hassle coming from that, they are getting an experienced player."
