Alan Hutton has claimed Willie Collum was correct to deny Kilmarnock a penalty against Rangers on Saturday (4 March).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said that if referees were to start awarding penalties for fouls like Allan McGregor's, there would be "loads".

As shown on Sky Sports (6 March), McGregor tangled with Killie's Rory McKenzie inside the Gers' penalty box.

There were penalty calls from the visitors but Collum waved them away and allowed play to continue.

The Light Blues went on to a 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Connor Goldson, Fashion Sakala and James Tavernier's penalty.

When asked for his assessment of the keeper's challenge, Hutton told Football Insider: "Obviously listening to everything that is being said about it, you can see both sides of the argument.

"Me personally, I believe that he did get the ball. He has obviously punched it out for the corner and then there is contact.

"I think if you were giving penalties for that you would be giving loads, more than what they are at this moment.

"He can't put his body anywhere else. He can't punch the ball away and then disappear, there is going to be some sort of contact.

"For me I think the decision is right and that is not just me being a Rangers fan. If that was any other team I would be saying the same thing.

"He gets a hand on the ball and it is after that the contact is made so I think it is the right decision."
