Rangers are on the hunt for a striker before the winter transfer window closes as they look to boost their Scottish Premiership title ambitions.

Danny Rohl’s side have been linked to plenty of forwards over the past few weeks, with the lack of a clinical attacker one of their biggest issues.

Ryan Naderi has been one of Rangers’ biggest targets in the closing stages, with the Gers submitting a bid for the Hansa Rostock striker.

However, with a deal still not close, the Old Firm side have looked at potential other options to bolster their frontline before the end of the season.

One of these is Cameron Archer, with the Ibrox faithful unimpressed by the link to the Southampton star.

Currently at Southampton in the Championship, the 24-year-old has only netted two second-tier goals this campaign as the Saints struggle to get back into the race for promotion.

Therefore, when Sky Sports on 30 January confirmed that Archer was a potential option going into the final days of the window, fans were far from happy.

Many took to X to protest the potential signing, believing that Archer would just be another flop incoming.

Can Archer be a success for Rangers?

If Rangers do go through with the signing, the biggest question will be, can he succeed?

Well, according to Fotmob on 31 January, his stats in the Championship aren’t as bad as they appear at first glance.

Per 90 minutes, the striker is averaging 0.30 goals, a 0.57 xG, 2.83 shots, 0.15 big chances created and 1.19 successful dribbles.

Therefore, if he is given a run of matches and consistent minutes, the striker would likely find the back of the net on a more regular basis.

This, combined with the potential he has, could make Archer a valuable signing at Ibrox this winter if he can quickly find his feet.

Hopefully, Rohl has a plan for the Saints star if a bid is made to help him quickly rediscover his form as Rangers hunt for the Scottish Premiership title in the remaining months of the 2025-26 campaign.
