Rangers fans on Twitter have blasted attacking midfielder Carlos Pena for his performance in an extremely controversial 2-0 loss to Motherwell at Hampden Park on Sunday,

Pena, 27, was hooked in the second half by Pedro Caixinha after having little effect in the Scottish Cup semi-final clash which saw the Gers miss the chance of facing Celtic in an Old Firm clash in the final thanks to a brace from Louis Moult.

The Mexico international has been widely criticised since signing for the Gers from Chivas in the summer, but looked to have been making progress in recent weeks, especially in his last outing when he netted a brace against St Johnstone.

He has neither completed 90 minutes either for Rangers, which suggests that he is either not playing to the standard that Caixinha wants or that he is nowhere near the fitness level required.

According to the fans, it was the former that was the problem with Pena on Sunday after a poor outing.

Pena has made 10 appearances across all competitions since joining the Gers, scoring four goals in the process.

The Mexican attacker has become Caixinha's usual No 10 in his starting line-up, behind striker Alfredo Morelos after a switch from the 4-4-2 formation following Kenny Miller's axe from the first-team.
