Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to urge Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres to sign for the club in the summer transfer window.

Torres, 34, is out of contract within a matter of weeks and will leave Atletico on a free transfer.

On Friday, the Spaniard's former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard was announced as the next Rangers manager, prompting the iconic striker to post a message of congratulations on his personal Twitter account.

"I wish you all the best in your new adventure. You are much more than qualified for continuing succeeding in football, now as a coach. Good luck in Glasgow Rangers Stevie," Torres said.

Torres' post lead to swathes of Rangers fans urging the Champions League and World Cup winner to sign for them in the summer.

One Gers fan told Torres he should get "on the plane now" in order to make his way to Glasgow.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Torres has made 41 appearances in all competitions for Atletico this term, scoring eight goals in the process.

Throughout his entire career he has scored goals wherever he has gone, aside from a brief blip at Chelsea before helping them to win the Champions League title.

For Liverpool, Torres linked up perfectly with Gerrard as both players were in the prime of their careers.

The 110-times Spain international scored 81 goals in 142 appearances for the Reds before joining Chelsea for £50million.
