Rangers have held preliminary talks with St Mirren's Vaclav Hladky as they earmark four potential goalkeeper targets, Football Insider understands.

The Light Blues' recruitment team have identified alternatives to the 29-year-old Czech in case negotiations break down.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club want to be in a position to move quickly in the January window amid doubts over the future of Wes Foderingham.

Rangers are also keeping close tabs on Preston North End's Declan Rudd, who is out of contract next summer.

Like Hladky, Rudd is a proven performer in his late 20s who is having a fine season and playing some of the best football of his career.

Foderingham is out of contract at the end of the season and may look to quit in the January window.

The number two has made just six appearances since Allan McGregor was signed on a free in the summer of 2018 and immediately installed as first choice.

McGregor, 37, is in line for a new contract in the next month that will be triggered by hitting a benchmark of appearances.

Rangers are in the market for a proven keeper who can back up the veteran Scot and eventually become the first choice in Steven Gerrard's side.

They could also have to replace their third senior shot-stopper Jak Alnwick, who is on a season-long loan at English League One club Blackpool.
