Rangers have opened talks over a potential £600,000 move for Hamilton midfielder Greg Docherty, according to a report.

claims that Graeme Murty wants the 21-year-old in the January window but also warned that Hamilton were ready to play 'hard ball' in the negotiations. Rangers are set to continue the negotiations over the weekend. The Daily Record claims that English Championship side Cardiff are also interested in the Scotland Under-21 player but that Docherty would prefer a move to Rangers. Hamilton chairman Ronnie MacDonald had previously admitted an approach from Rangers. "A member of my board was contacted by a Rangers official on Friday afternoon to state their interest in Greg," he said.

Football Insider verdict:

The 21-year-old would be a great buy for Rangers. He's already got heaps of experience in the Premiership despite his age and actually made his debut back in 2014. He's made 21 Premiership appearances this season, scoring six goals and adding six assists. Young and with bags of promise, he's exactly what Rangers need at the moment and he's so very different to the sort of players Pedro Caixinha was looking to recruit. That can only be a good thing.
