Rangers are set to offload Lee Wallace this summer despite his surprise return to the team, Football Insider understands.

The long-serving left-back, 31, made his first appearance for the club in four months and just his third of the campaign with a brief cameo in the 2-0 win against Aberdeen last weekend.

Nevertheless, a club source has told Football Insider Rangers have no intention of offering a new contract to Wallace, whose current deal expires at the end of this season.

There is interest from clubs north and south of the border in signing the defender on a free transfer.

Wallace was given a standing ovation from the Ibrox faithful last Sunday as they recognised the contribution of a hugely popular figure in the most turbulent period in the club's history.

Rangers

The former Scotland international remained loyal to Rangers when they went down to the bottom tier and helped them back up through the divisions.

He has dropped down the left-back pecking order in the last two seasons, initially due to injury, but has been fit and available for most of this campaign.
