Rangers told to pull Ianis Hagi U-turn after what expert has seen

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Rangers should keep Ianis Hagi for the 2024-25 campaign and boost his value by giving him a first-team role.

That is the view of former Celtic and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 25-year-old's Ibrox future.

Hagi is currently starring for Romania at the European Championships in Germany, making two substitute appearances in games against Ukraine and Belgium.

The attacking midfielder spent last term on loan at La Liga side Alaves, notching two goals and two assists in 26 appearances.

Hagi joined Rangers in 2020 and helped them win the Scottish Premiership in his first season at the club before a serious knee injury in January 2022.

Rangers told to reintegrate Hagi in new U-turn

He is under contract at Ibrox until June 2026, and McAvennie believes Rangers should U-turn on his future and reintegrate him into Philippe Clement's side.

The ex-Celtic striker told Football Insider: “Rangers wouldn’t get much if they were to sell him now.

“He’s a decent player, he’s an international - but he’s not getting a game.

“This is his chance to play regularly on the big stage. No one is coming in for him off the back of substitute appearances at the Euros.

“He’s a decent player, and if he can play week-in, week-out for Clement - then they can get decent money for him next year.

Rangers

“They’ll be getting pennies if they sell him this summer.

“Rangers can’t just let everyone go now, they’ve got some decent players on the books.”
