'That's a lot of money for Rangers' - Pundit on Ibrox source's Ross Stewart update today
Paul Robinson has told Rangers to be careful on blowing their budget on Sunderland striker Ross Stewart in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said £10million would be "a huge amount of money" for the Gers to spend on a player unproven at the top level.
Stewart, 26, has been a revelation for Sunderland since joining from Ross County in 2021.
Football Insider revealed on 19 December that Rangers are interested in the centre-forward but the Black Cats would demand a fee of £10million for their star man.
Stewart's contract at the Stadium of Light expires at the end of June next year and there is a 12-month option.
The latest from an Ibrox source on Friday is that Rangers are keeping close tabs on Stewart and are closely monitoring all his performances during Sunderland's fixtures.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on a potential move to Ibrox, Robinson said:
"That's a lot of money for Rangers. It is a huge amount of money for a player who has done well in League One and the Championship. That is the sort of money they spend on two players.
"I think it would be a big risk because Stewart is untried and untested at that level. Yes, he has played in the Scottish Premiership and yes, he has ability. But, you would want to sign a player who is guaranteed to be a success for that amount of money.
"They could buy two or three tried and tested players for that price. I would not rush to push that one through if I was Rangers."
