Rangers deal to sign Brighton winger Abdallah Sima could be 'dead in the water' after their failure to secure Champions League group stage football, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Rangers' elimination from Europe's premier club competition will make it even harder to manoeuvre in the transfer window.

Rangers have been working on deal for the Senegal international having impressed on loan last season as they seek to challenge Celtic for there Scottish Premier League title.

The Glasgow club lost 2-0 to Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier on Tuesday.

Abdallah Sima to Rangers on the rocks

Sima was a constant threat while on loan at the Glasgow club last season, scoring 16 goals and providing two assists in 39 appearances for the club.

Injury issues at the back end of last season disrupted his time at the club, but both he and Rangers are said to be keen on a return ahead of next season.

It's been a busy transfer window at the Ibrox with the Glasgow giants bringing in eight players and losing five, including key defender Connor Goldson who joined Cypriot side Aris Limassol.
