Rangers victims of major injustice as Scott Arfield controversy analysed - Hutton
Alan Hutton has insisted Scott Arfield's goal for Rangers against Hearts on Saturday should have been allowed.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said VAR would have allowed the goal to stand had it been in operation.
As shown on Sportscene (1 October), Hearts stopper Craig Gordon collided with Rabbi Matondo in the box, allowing Arfield to tap in Borna Barisic's cross.
The goal was disallowed by referee Steven McLean as he adjudged Matondo to have fouled the Hearts keeper.
The Light Blues went on to win the game 4-0.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the incident, Hutton said: "It is a goal for me.
"I know there has been a lot of back and fourth with different pundits and trying to analyse it. It is a cross in to the box, Craig Gordon comes out and gets nowhere near it. He actually lands on Matondo and kind of puts him to the floor and then Arfield puts in a tap-in.
"So, for me, it should stand. It is a legitimate goal. I think if VAR looks at it, they see that as well. I just think Craig Gordon has made a meal of it. The referee obviously sees it on his side as a foul but not for me."
VAR is set to be introduced in the Scottish top flight after the World Cup in Qatar.
However, according to the Get Involved Referee podcast (3 October), the introduction of the technology is said to be "imminent" and could be in place earlier than initially anticipated.
