Alan Hutton has insisted Rangers will be sweating after Nathan Patterson picked up an injury on international duty.

The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the lack of detail in Steve Clarke's update on the 19-year-old was "strange".

Patterson dropped out of the Scotland squad on Monday after starting the win over Moldova.

As quoted by the Daily Record, manager Clarke confirmed an injury forced the young right-back out.

However, he did not elaborate further.

Hutton admitted the youngster would be "frustrated" at being ruled out of action.

He suggested both player, club and country would be worried by the setback.

"It will be frustrating, especially after such a good performance," Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge.

"Everybody, rightly so, has been talking him up. He's the future of Scotland so far Steve Clarke to be missing him for this game is a big blow.

"The circumstances, we don't really know what knock it is. Nothing's really come out.

"It didn't look like he was carrying anything while he was playing it. He was energetic up and down the line so it's a bit of a strange one.

"Hopefully it's not too bad because obviously, going back to Rangers, he is looking to push Tavernier all the way this season.

"He'll want to keep fit and build on the momentum that he's got through this Scotland camp."

Rangers

Patterson has not started a league game for Rangers this season.

He now has three Scotland caps after breaking through at Ibrox last season.
