Rangers midfielder Liam Burt could put himself into a very small group of current Gers players on Saturday as he looks to help Dumbarton lift the Scottish Challenge Cup and earn a winner's medal - and do his chances of breaking into the Gers first-team no harm at all.

Burt joined the Sons on a loan with Gers team-mate Aidan Wilson however Wilson won't be able to take any part after being cup-tied playing against the Sons for Rangers Under-20's earlier in the competition.

After being on the bench for Scotland Under-21's on Friday night when they faced Andorra before a mad dash across Europe to get to McDiarmid Park in time for the clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Burt has been on the fringes of the first-team for a few years now but has had injury problems that have saw him fallen behind others in the pecking order but the Scotland Under-21 star has all the talent to go on and make himself a regular in the first-team.

Getting the opportunity to go and lift some silverware on live television should give Burt a little extra motivation to play through any fatigue after his dash across the continent and help the Sons lift the first trophy in the club's 146-year existence.

While the likes of Ross McCrorie have made their names in the first-team ahead of Burt, it's likely only a matter of time before Burt makes his mark.
