Ryan Kent has delivered some "scintillating" performances in training that have blown his Rangers teammates away, Football Insider understands.

The winger, 22, has made just three starts among five appearances for Steven Gerrard's side this season, after his blockbuster £7million summer move.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Kent is making a big impression behind the scenes at Auchenhowie as he works his way back to full match fitness.

The recruit from Liverpool has dazzled in small-sided matches with his footwork, dribbling and ball manipulation, with teammates excited about what he can do in the coming months.

Gerrard and his coaching staff have been re-integrating Kent back into the Rangers team gradually to avoid a repeat of the hamstring injury he suffered on his comeback against Livingston on 14 September.

Gerrard admitted he had made a mistake by slotting the attacker straight into his starting XI after his protracted summer move, rather than using him initially as a substitute.

Two of Kent's subsequent four games have begun on the bench and he was a notable absentee from the squad for last Wednesday's 4-0 SPL mauling of Ross County.

Rangers have high hopes that Kent's ability carry the ball forward and open up heavily-manned defences can prove crucial in what is shaping up to be a thrilling title race.

He looked back to his best in the 3-0 Scottish League Cup triumph over Hearts last weekend, playing key roles in each of Alfredo Morelos' two goals.
