The transfer of Naby Keita to Liverpool could be a "formality" in this transfer window, according to a reliable journalist.

In a series of tweets, Chris Williams – a UEFA-credited journalist – has revealed that although RB Leipzig have turned down a bid of £57million (€65million), the balance in the deal has tipped towards Liverpool.

Williams also reports that Keita is "desperate" for a move to Liverpool this summer and that although the public stance from the German is hardline, sources inside the club have said they would deal at a higher price.

Williams goes on to say that some people within RB Leipzig believe that the move is now a "formality".

The journalist released the tweets on his official Twitter account.

The tweets come on the back of a report on Thursday from the Telegraph that claimed RB Leipzig contacted Liverpool directly to say that Keita wasn't for sale.

It was said that the only way the move would happen is if Keita put in a formal transfer request - something it appears the player hasn't done yet.

However, there's plenty of time to go in the summer window and leading bookmakers also think the move is not far from a formality.

SkyBet now put the Keita to Liverpool move at just 1/2 – odds that suggest it is highly likely to happen. Keita is 6/4 to stay at Leipzig.
