Liverpool defender Tom Brewitt is open to a January loan away from the club to secure first-team football.

Football Insider last month reported that the 19-year-old had signed a new contract at Anfield.

Talking to Liverpool site This Is Anfield, Hewitt expressed his hopes of being given an opportunity of given a chance by Jurgen Klopp but said he is willing to go out on loan in January.

“Maybe at Christmas I’ll be given an opportunity to impress and I’ll give my all to Klopp if I am given that chance,” Brewitt said.

“I’m always working hard in training and putting in 100% whenever I get on the pitch so I’m hoping that will show.

"There’s the potential of going out on loan in January if the club believes that’s the best route for me to take for my development.

“I’d be open to gaining more experience and to play regular first team football. I’ve got lots of options this year though so there’s definitely looks to look forward to.”

Brewitt has been at Liverpool since the age of 10, has progressed through the youth ranks over the years and has made 50 appearances for the club in the Under-21s Premier League.

Brewitt, who was the Liverpool Under-18s captain at one point, was a central figure in Michael Beale's Under-21s team that finished seventh in 2015-16.

The youngster has been named in Liverpool’s first-team squad on one occasion – the 4-1 defeat at Arsenal in April 2015 – and has played for England at the Under-17s and Under-16s levels.

He has trained with Jurgen Klopp's senior squad but he has not yet made his first-team debut.

Brewitt's previous contract was due to expire at the end of June but he has been retained as the club back his potential to make the breakthrough.

In an interview with the Liverpool Echo last year, the teenager spoke about his love of playing for the team he grew up supporting.

“My family are all Reds and playing for the club you have supported since you were a little boy is huge,” Brewitt said.

“The great thing here is knowing that there’s a pathway to the first team.”

In other Liverpool news, they have clinched a new transfer after a five-year deal was agreed.
