Leeds United are prioritising the signing of another new striker before the transfer window shuts, according to a report.

The Yorkshire Evening Post claim the Championship giants are keen to add to their striker ranks despite capturing Jay-Roy Grot from Dutch club NEC on Thursday for an initial £750,000 in a deal that could rise to £1.5million.

It is said that manager Thomas Christiansen is aware he needs more forward power to cover the loss of Chris Wood, who joined Burnley earlier this week.

The Yorkshire Evening Post name the three strikers on Leeds radar as Middlesbrough's Rudy Gestede, Preston's Jordan Hugill and Norwich City's Nelson Oliveira.

Gestede was the subject of a £6m bid that Middlesbrough quickly dismissed earlier this week, while the Yorkshire Evening Post report that the club are also trying to sign Oliveira, who is also being closely monitored by United’s recruitment staff.

Hugill, 24, is regarded as one of the best young forwards in the Championship after catching the eye for Preston last season.

He was their top scorer in 2016-17 with 13 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions and he has scored three goals in five games already this term.

He is in-demand, too. Football Insider has learned that Birmingham City have had a couple of bids for the striker turned down by Preston and Sunderland are also interested.
