Celtic will only pursue a permanent deal for Mohamed Elyounoussi if Southampton lower their asking price, Football Insider understands.

The Premier League club have told the Hoops in previous discussions that it would take £8-10million to land Elyounoussi permanently.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club are aware the Norway international is available for transfer.

But they have made up their minds to wait and see if his price drops further into the summer.

Celtic are ready to begin their transfer business after the Scottish top flight season was terminated last week.

That has opened the door for them to begin negotiations on a number of key transfers.

There could well be plenty of business with Southampton, with Fraser Forster and Olivier Ntcham key topics of discussion as well as Elyounoussi.

The Saints have made Ntcham one of their top targets to replace Tottenham and Everton target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer.

Celtic want Forster permanently after his starring role in their title-winning campaign while on a season-long loan.

Elyounoussi has also spent the campaign at Parkhead but was unable to build upon an impressive start to make a definitive case for Neil Lennon to sign him.

As revealed by Football Insider in February, Real Sociedad are also in the hunt to sign the 24-times Norway international on a permanent deal.

He scored seven goals and providing six assists in 15 games before suffering a foot injury in November.

The left winger subsequently failed to get an extended run of games before the mid-March lockdown.
