Celtic and Rangers are pushing for the SPFL to establish a date by which it would call an end to this season.

The two Glasgow giants are in agreement that there must be clarity from the governing body on the process for recommencing or finishing the current campaign.

Scottish league chiefs have failed to match the proactive moves south of the border, where the Premier League and Football League are laying the foundations for a restart early next month.

The SPFL has already ended the lower leagues' season and there is considerable doubt over whether the Scottish Premiership will complete its fixtures.

The 12 top-flight clubs and Championship winners Dundee United held a two-hour conference call yesterday afternoon to thrash out major issues as they seek to deal with the chaos caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

A Scottish source told Football Insider is that the consensus was for the season to be completed but that is regarded as unlikely by many of the clubs.

Celtic and Rangers are among the clubs keen to establish a date by which it needs to be ended.

SPFL are waiting for clarity from the Scottish government and Uefa, and will then consult with clubs before making a decision.

The meeting took place amid a backdrop of Rangers' accusation of serious foul play from the SPFL in the ballot to end the lower leagues.

Ibrox managing director Stewart Robertson told the SPL clubs yesterday that they will see Rangers' evidence against the SPFL next week.

The Light Blues have claimed "bullying" and "coercion" of clubs by the SPFL and called for Doncaster and the league's legal adviser Rod McKenzie to be removed while an investigation was launched.
