Celtic are set to welcome Gavin Strachan to their coaching staff after finalising contract terms.

The Glasgow giants have reached an agreement to pay a compensation fee to Peterborough United for the 41-year-old.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the breakthrough paves the way for the son of the club's former manager Gordon to join Neil Lennon's backroom staff as the new first-team coach.

An announcement is imminent and comes shortly after Celtic announced that Damien Duff was quitting the club to take up a position with the Ireland national team.

The source explained that Strachan agreed a long-term contract with the Scottish giants 10 days ago.

The deal has just been held up while Celtic and English League One outfit Peterborough negotiated the compensation.

Strachan was under contract at the Posh until 2022 but is eager to link up with the club where his father was the manager from 2005 to 2009.

He will be a straight replacement for Duff and will link up with Lennon and his assistant manager John Kennedy.

At Peterborough, Strachan has been Darren Ferguson's number two, the same role he held during their three-year spell together at Doncaster Rovers.
