Ibrox Sources: Rangers board stance on sacking Gerrard revealed
The Rangers board will not sack Steven Gerrard in the wake of the team's catastrophic post-new year collapse, Football Insider understands.
The Light Blues manager admitted he was considering his future after the team's shock Scottish Cup defeat to Hearts on Saturday.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club's chairman Dave King and board of directors have no plans to dismiss Gerrard either now or going into the summer.
This comes after they backed the Liverpool icon to the hilt in the January window and last summer and also sanctioned £20million in signings so far.
Gerrard and his entire backroom team were also handed five-year contracts in December following the club's progress to the Europa League knockout stages.
Rangers chiefs still have faith in the 39-year-old although their belief in his ability to end Celtic's dominance of Scottish football has been hit by the team's dreadful form since the winter break.
Gerrard confessed he had never felt so low as Rangers manager as he did following the cup loss to Hearts.
His side have also slipped to 12 points behind Celtic in the title race and their hopes of winning a domestic trophy are now all but over.
No Rangers manager has gone two full seasons without silverware and started the third in charge.
