Slaven Bilic has revealed that Nemanja Matic sent him a pre-match text message urging West Ham to beat Tottenham on Friday night.

Chelsea midfielder Matic had promised to buy Hammers manager Bilic a slap-up meal if he could do the west Londoners a favour in the title race.

West Ham subsequently beat Spurs 1-0 at London Stadium to deliver a shattering blow to their title hopes and seemingly hand the title to Chelsea on a plate.

Bilic told eastern European TV channel Sport Klub that Matic had said in his message: “If you stop Tottenham, I’ll take you out to dinner.”

On the deal struck with the Chelsea first teamer Matic, Bilic claimed: “Matic is a wonderful guy, a great player.

Tottenham had been piling the pressure on Chelsea in the build-up to Friday night's all-London encounter and victory would have lifted them to within a point of the long-time leaders.

But Spurs remain four points behind Antonio Conte's side and face a huge swing in fortunes to secure their first title in more than 50 years.

Chelsea will secure their fifth Premier League title of the Roman Abramovich era if they win two of their remaining four matches.
