Paul Robinson has claimed Jose Mourinho may inspire a shock U-turn from Tottenham contract rebel Christian Eriksen.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Leeds goalkeeper explained how the new manager has the persuasive skills to keep hold of the Danish playmaker.

Eriksen, 27, is out of contract at the end of the season and Tottenham's attempts to keep him have hit a series of stumbling blocks.

He was a nailed-on starter in his first six seasons at Tottenham but has not lost his regular starting place in this campaign and has been on the bench for all five of Mourinho's five Premier League matches at the helm.

Asked by Football Insider about Christian Eriksen's future ahead of January, Robinson said: "To keep him against his will, you're not getting the best out of Eriksen as we've seen this year but there's possibly still a chance that Mourinho could turn it around with him.

"I think there's still a good chance he could sign a contract if Mourinho turns around and says: ‘I've got X amount to spend in January, this is what's going to happen, give me two seasons, I want to build a team around you, Dele and others and let's see where we can go.’

"Unless the Eriksen deal is already done, the only chance of him staying would have been someone like Mourinho coming in."

Eriksen has an outstanding record for Tottenham, with his 296 matches yielding 68 goals and 89 assists.

His productivity has diminished significantly this season, with his 19 appearances in all competitions yielding two goals and three assists.
