Paul Robinson has claimed Rangers are taking "a big risk" by appointing Michael Beale as their new manager.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the job at Ibrox is "even bigger" than the one at Wolves.

At the back end of October, Beale turned turn an approach from Wolves to stay at QPR.

On Monday (28 November), the Gers confirmed the appointment of Beale on a contract until May 2026.

The 42-year-old returns to Ibrox following a successful period as Steven Gerrard's assistant.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the appointment, Robinson said: "I think it is a big risk by Rangers.

"Michael Beale has been a manager for six months. QPR's form before the break tailed off a bit.

"He thought the job at Wolves was not right for him but I think the Rangers job is even bigger. He is going up against a tried and tested manager in Ange Postecoglou.

"Beale is yet to cut his teeth at the top level. Look, it is a gamble that could pay off but it could bit them on the backside. Yes, Beale is an amazing coach but as a manager, his man-management skills will be tested.

"QPR and Rangers are two very different jobs. It will be a huge challenge for him. Both parties are taking a risk. As a coach, he is proven but he is not proven as a manager."
