Paul Robinson has claimed West Ham "cannot afford to lose" Craig Dawson in the January transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suspects manager David Moyes will be "very reluctant" to allow the 32-year-old to leave.

Dawson has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the London Stadium.

The centre-half was heavily linked with an exit from the club in the summer transfer window but a move failed to materialise.

According to Claret and Hugh (11 October), the Hammers will table the defender a new contract offer this winter but remain uncertain he will extend.

It is said that Dawson was keen to move further north for family reasons earlier this year.

When asked by Football Insider if the club should fight tooth and nail to keep hold of the ex-Watford man, Robinson said: "Dawson is a fans favourite.

"He has done extremely well there. David Moyes will be very reluctant to lose him.

"If the player wants to move further north for personal reasons, you would think West Ham would do it in the right way. It will not be one they will do in January though, no chance. That is a deal to be done in the summer.

"They cannot afford to lose him in January, not with the injuries they have had in that position already this season."
