Paul Robinson is over the moon to hear Tottenham are "confident" of tying Son Heung-min down to a new contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper claimed "it is the best news to come out of the club in the last six months."

According to Fabrizio Romano, the club's board are "confident" that the South Korea international will put pen to paper on a new long-term deal once the manager situation has been resolved.

The winger has two years remaining on his current contract and has attracted interest from the likes of Bayern Munich over the past 12 months.

Robinson feared Son may want to leave Spurs if Harry Kane completed an exit.

"It is vitally important that they get Son tied down to a new deal," he told Football Insider's Dylan Childs.

"We talk about the managerial appointment being appointment well Son staying is almost as important.

"If Harry Kane leaves, you start to wonder what other players might want to leave. If the likes of Son and Lloris started making noises about wanting to leave on the back of Harry Kane moving to say Manchester City then it would be a huge problem for Spurs.

"To hear Son is near to signing a new deal is massive for Tottenham. It is the best news that has come out of the club in the last six months."
