Robinson shares his insight on pal Heaton quitting Aston Villa for Man United
Aston Villa back-up goalkeeper Tom Heaton would find it "very hard" to turn down an offer from Manchester United this summer.
That is the view of former England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the prospect of the 35-year-old moving to Old Trafford in the next transfer window.
The Sun report that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are lining up a move for the 3-times England international in case they fail in their pursuit of re-signing Sam Johnstone.
Heaton's contract at Villa Park expires at the end of June and with Emiliano Martinez assuming the number one role this season it appears likely he will seek an exit.
Robinson, who knows Heaton well from their time together at Burnley, claimed his former teammate would be the "perfect" mentor for Dean Henderson at Old Trafford.
"An offer from Manchester United would be a huge spanner in the works," he told Football Insider.
"Knowing Tom he will want to play first team football, especially at this stage of his career. He wants to play week in, week out but with the opportunity to play FA Cup, League Cup and perhaps Champions League with one of the biggest clubs in the world, it would be very hard to turn down.
"Yes, he would not be the number one and he is not going to play every week but he would get a percentage of the games and could challenge for silverware.
"With Tom's age and experience he could be the perfect mentor figure for Dean Henderson. He would be a brilliant signing for Manchester United.
"A club like that does not come knocking very often so if you get an opportunity for potentially the biggest club in the world, you tend to take it. I think it would be a great signing for all concerned."
