Robinson: This may be real reason Martin Dubravka left Newcastle United after clause revealed
Martin Dubravka left Newcastle to join Man United in search of game time, according to Paul Robinson.
The former Spurs and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suspects the prospect of Europa League football persuaded the 33-year-old to leave St. James' Park.
On 1 September, Man United announced Dubravka had joined on a season-long loan deal from the Magpies.
The Slovakia international is expected to be United's number two this season following the departure of Dean Henderson to Nottingham Forest.
According to the Manchester Evening News (1 September), Dubravka's loan deal, which is said to be worth £2million, includes a recall option.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the late-window transfer, Robinson said: "I think Dubravka will see there as being more opportunity to play at Man United.
"They have the Europa League coming up. Newcastle do not have European football this season.
"Nick Pope has gone there, taken the number one spot and is having a really great season. Eddie Howe is not going to change his goalkeeper unless Pope is injured or suspended.
"Yes, there is the domestic cup competitions but Man United have those as well. I think that was something to do with it. Personally, I can understand why he has done it."
Dubravka was Newcastle's number one in the 2021-22 campaign.
He kept eight clean sheets in 26 appearances.
