Liverpool are not close to agreeing terms with Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold or Virgil van Dijk to extend their contracts, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed that there was no chance any of the three stars were going to make the move away from Anfield in January.

As things stand, the situation remains uncertain and all three players have been allowed to discuss pre-contract deals to move abroad since the start of January.

However, Liverpool remain hopeful they can tie the players down to new deals rather than lose them for free come the end of the season.

There is a "major concern" at Anfield that losing all three would come as a "huge blow" given the finances it would take to replace them adequately.

Salah, 32, has been heavily linked with a big-money move to the Saudi Pro League, while 33-year-old Van Dijk's future is more up in the air with little speculation about possible interest.

Alexander-Arnold, 26, is considered the most likely to part ways given the efforts of Real Madrid to tempt him to move to Spain.

Liverpool still hopeful of three new contract announcements

The announcement of new deals for Salah, Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk would provide a boost to the Reds amid their ambitions to win the Premier League and Champions League.

However, they are no closer to reaching an agreement than they were heading into the January transfer window, with any deals now expected to come later in the season.

However, there is a growing feeling that the longer they go without a significant breakthrough in talks, the more likely all three players are to leave the club.

Trent Alexander-Arnold contract update emerges

Alexander-Arnold has been subject to intense speculation surrounding his future since before the January window, with a move to Real Madrid very much on the cards.

As things stand, he is said to be leaning towards a move to Los Blancos as player typically find it difficult to turn down the Spanish giants.

However, successful Premier League and Champions League campaigns with Liverpool could be enough to convince him to commit his future to Slot's side.
